iPhone 12 camera repair : iOS alert of non-original parts!

Replacing damaged genuine Apple parts with non-branded components is a common practice used by many service centers.  However, iOS 14 and later can cause problems in this regard. Namely, it has a built-in system that can detect a non-genuine camera and inform the user with an error message.

With a new feature built directly into the iOS 14.4 operating system, Apple wants to help prevent unqualified service.  In other words, it strives to ensure that users have their devices repaired by authorized service centers, or by certified technicians using genuine Apple spare parts.

Which devices display an error message?

So far, only all versions of the iPhone 12 with the iOS 14.4 operating system (iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max) have the ability to recognize a non-original part.  This feature is not available on other models that can be upgraded to this version of the operating system.  However, iPhone 13 devices are expected to feature similar functionality.

What does the iPhone 12 service announcement look like?

A non-genuine camera error message appears in settings where it may not be as severe.  However, the problem may be that the message also appears on the locked phone screen.  I mean, it’s always in sight.  If you click on it, it will direct you to a document that emphasizes that the iPhone should be repaired by certified service centers using genuine Apple parts.

iPhone 12 camera and its functionality

Although iPhone displays an error message after installing a non-genuine camera, each function should work correctly.  However, iFixit has found that in some cases a non-genuine camera may not work 100% properly and may stop working completely after a while.  This is probably due to misalignment with the software.

How to avoid an error message?

If you want to avoid an error message after installing a new camera, you must first use an original spare part.  Keep in mind that an error message will be displayed even if you replace the camera with the same one from another smartphone.  The exact procedure set by Apple must be followed for the repair.  Otherwise, the camera may not "pair" properly with the software, and in addition to a non-genuine camera error message, functionality problems may occur.
