However, repairing or replacing the display is not necessarily a costly affair. Not every crack on the display automatically means a "broken display". In some cases, only the protective glass will break and the display itself, ie its most important parts, will remain intact. However, in order to better understand the problem of a broken display or replacement of the display, it is first necessary to understand in more detail what parts the display really consists of.

Structure of LCD display

Each conventional LCD display consists of several parts, which are connected to each other in the thinnest possible layer. It is true that each part has its specific role. The outer part is the touch (or also the windshield) glass. Touch glass is a kind of mediator between your finger and the rest of the LCD panel. It serves to protect other parts and is the cheapest component of the entire display. Under the windshield is a digitizer, also called a touch layer. It has the task of converting the user's touch into digital signals, which he then sends on to the device. The touch screen itself and the windshield do not create an image. This is taken care of by the LCD (liquid crystal display) surface together with the LED layer. The LED layer creates the so-called backlight, while the LCD surface converts this backlight into a specific image. The last layer is a frame within each display, which is used to hold the entire panel. The display always includes two flex cables, which take care of connecting the display to the device and transmitting information.

 

Is it possible to replace just one part of the display?

There is no clear answer to this question. This is mainly due to the increasingly widespread trend among manufacturers, who in the context of innovation connect individual parts of displays together, which allows them to create even thinner and higher quality displays. Such displays include Samsung, Apple or Huawei displays.

However, this connection also brings with it one significant disadvantage - if such a display is damaged, it is necessary to replace the entire work and it is not possible to replace, for example, only a broken windshield. Fortunately, many mobile phones use even older types of displays, and repairing such displays can be much cheaper.

How to figure our which part of the display is damaged?

An inexperienced layman simply looks at the crack in the display to see that the display is broken. However, if you already have some experience with technology, you certainly know that not every crack means that the entire display is broken and therefore unusable.

There are several degrees of "breakage"

1. Damage to the windshield
2. Damage to the contact surface
3. Damage to the LCD display

In the first case, which can be described as the most tolerable alternative, only the windshield itself was damaged. Such a display can still be used very well, especially if the cracks in it do not interfere with your use. In addition, when repairing, simply replace the windshield itself and the display is like new. However, you can also prevent this problem - all you have to do is install a protective glass or foil on the display, which can often protect it from being broken.

If not only the windshield itself, but also the touch layer is damaged, the mobile phone will stop responding to touches and thus become inoperable, although the display itself will continue to work. Although it may seem that such a display can still be saved, we do not recommend it. Not only is the replacement or separation of the touch surface from the LCD panel extremely difficult, it can often damage the display itself, which completely degrades the whole process. We therefore recommend that you reach for high-quality spare parts, which will save you time and will not test your patience. 

The last and the biggest damage to the display that can occur is damage to the LCD panel itself. Such a display usually stops working completely, or various lines or spots appear on it, resembling pools of spilled ink. In this case, the replacement of the entire part is truly necessary.
