Replacing the battery in your iPhone? We will advise you on how to avoid service announcements!

Replacing the battery is a fairly common service that many iPhone owners accede. While the rest of the device can function essentially flawlessly even after years, battery wear will sooner or later always occur, regardless of how the owner used the device.

Replacing the battery in your iPhone? We will advise you on how to avoid service announcements!

If you're repairing an iPhone XS or later, you need to pay one extra factor when replacing the battery. This is the disconnection of the so-called BMS (battery management system) from the old battery and its connection to the new battery. Otherwise, you will be unpleasantly surprised by the service message, which informs you about the problem with the verification of the originality of the battery, as the BMS takes care of the correct programming and pairing of the battery with the motherboard. In addition, however, you will also lose the "Battery Health" function, which continuously informs about the capacity of the battery or its use.

So how do I replace the battery on an iPhone Xs or later?

  • First of all, it is necessary to disassemble the device, disconnect the display and then the battery. Be careful not to damage the flex cable connecting the display or battery to the system board.

  • Subsequently, it is necessary to disconnect the BMS from the old battery. To do this, you must first remove the insulating tape and the protective cover.

FIG.

  • You can then use pliers to separate the BMS from the battery. Be careful when handling the battery, you could damage the flex cable.

FIG.

  • When the BMS is disconnected, you can weld it to a new battery. Be careful not to mount the BMS properly and avoid confusing the anode with the cathode.

FIG.

  • Secure the BMS with insulating tape and a protective cover.

FIG.

  • Activate the battery with the appropriate device and test its functionality. The buzz should no longer appear. If this is indeed the case, you can restore the devices to their original state.
