What to do if the iPhone does not charge?

Slow or malfunctioning iPhone 8  charging is most often caused by charging accessories or software or hardware issues.

What to do if the iPhone does not charge?

Software problem - hard reset

The reason for not charging your iPhone may be that the software "crash" in the background.
Before taking any action, perform a hard reset on your iPhone. Here's how:

  1. Quickly press and release the volume up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the power button until the Apple logo appears, then release.

Tip: When trying a hard reset, people make the same mistake - they don't hold the buttons long enough. Therefore, make sure that you press the first two buttons very quickly and then the power button long enough. The process sometimes takes 20 seconds or more.

If a hard reset does not help, there may be a hardware problem.

Problem with charging accessory or charging port

3 main factors that you should examine carefully:

  1. Visible damage to accessories and connectors
  2. Check the originality of the adapter, lightning cable, and charger
  3. Check the charging port

Dust and dirt tend to block the charging port. The more dirt settles in the holes, the more likely it is that charging problems will occur. Also, exposing the device to moisture can cause corrosion on the charging port contacts. See how to resolve these issues.

Corrosion removal

Connect and disconnect the lightning cable 5 to 10 times repeatedly to smooth out corrosion. Try using an electrical contact cleaner. Turn off your iPhone before you start.
1. Spray the electrical contact cleaner on the tip of the interdental brush.
2. Gently insert the interdental brush into the charging port.
3. Spray the cleaner on the cable connector.
4. Insert the cleaned cable connector into the lightning port and gently rotate to clean it.
5. Do not spray the electrical contact cleaner directly into the lightning port, as this may damage the surrounding iPhone components.
6. Be sure to clean all contacts on the device as well as on the lightning cable.
7. All contacts and cable connectors must be completely dry before reuse.

Dust and dirt removal

Scrape the inside of the charging port with a nylon brush, a wooden or plastic toothpick. This will remove most of the dust and dirt

  1. Use a flashlight and a magnifying glass to check the inside of the charging port.
  2. Look for any dirt in the bottom and corners.
  3. If you still notice dirt, take a thin and solid object, such as an interdental brush.
  4. Carefully scrape off the dirt and remove it from the charging port.

Spray the charging port with compressed air spray

  • Soak the tip of the interdental brush in alcohol and clean the inside of the charging port with it
  • Place a piece of cleaning cloth on the screen or surgical gauze over the charging port and push it in with the cable connector. A cloth or gauze will catch dirt and dust inside

Hardware problem - time to fix

These are the most common hardware damage that causes charging problems. In this case, the best solution is to have your iPhone serviced by a professional who will resolve the issue.

The first two damages are easier for technicians to repair - they solve them by replacing the battery or charging port. Damage to the motherboard requires advanced skills, as it is a chip-level repair.

If charging problems persist, don't hesitate to bring your iPhone to Phone Servis.
