When you should put your mobile phone in service and when you should buy a new one?

Replacing equipment with new ones is seldom the most economical or even the most sensible solution.  In this article, we are going to present a whole list of defects that can be solved more or less easily (but still) and save not only your finances, but also the environment.

When you should put your mobile phone in service and when you should buy a new one?

Replacing a damaged smartphone with a completely new one is an increasingly common phenomenon in our country, Slovakia.  Manufacturers often offer / present this option as an advantage that saves their customers time.  Sometimes they also offer the option to purchase old equipment, thus making replacement more cost-effective.  I mean, how we take it.  Sometimes smartphone owners basically throw them in the trash.  If we take a closer look at the defect of the mobile phone, we will find that most of them need at most a little more demanding repair (and less financially demanding compared to the purchase of a new device) and can continue to function as new.

Here are the most common faults for which it is definitely not necessary to change the entire device immediately:

Damaged battery

The battery is a component that cannot be repaired, only replaced.  Even so, it is a relatively inexpensive spare part that will give your device a literally second breath and make it work peacefully for several more years.

Cracked/ broken display

A damaged display can mean that the device is no longer usable at all.  However, there is no need to despair - the replacement of displays is one of the repairs that we perform quite routinely and especially while you wait, while the cost of such service is still significantly lower than the price of most new equipment.

Buttons/ speaker is not working

These defects, although unpleasant, are very easy to repair.  The cause of their occurrence is mechanical damage to the component, which only needs to be replaced.  It does not cost much time or money to fix such a problem.

The so-called  “Housing” mainly performs a design and protective function, and in some cases its damage may endanger other components in your equipment that may be at risk of damage.  The spare part itself is not expensive at all and although the replacement itself can take a little more time, it is still a normal service operation and there is no reason to replace the entire device.

Damaged camera

Although camera is difficult to repair, it can be replaced relatively quickly and easily.  As with the battery, experience or  necessary equipment and your mobile will take pictures like new.

And when you should not repair your device?

We recommend that you reject the repair option only if damage has occurred, for example:

  • motherboard
  • several important components at the same time, such as a camera and a display
  • it is also very important to consider the age and value of the device

If the equipment has been used for several years, the cost of repairing or replacing some components may exceed the same equipment in undamaged condition.  Repair of the device loses its meaning even in the event of damage by dust, water or high temperatures - in this case, several components can be damaged at once and their replacement would be too time-consuming and costly.

However, this condition is best assessed by an experienced technician, so do not hesitate to take the device to a service center for free diagnostics first.
