If your iPhone 14 screen is cracked, not responding to touch, or not showing a picture when your phone is powered on, use this repair guide to restore your iPhone to working order with a new screen.

Important information before replacing the display

1. Drain the iPhone to below 25% as a fully charged Li-ion battery can catch fire or explode if its protective layers are accidentally breached.

2. Sensor assembly attached to the back of the display is factory paired with your individual iPhone, so you must transfer it from the old display to the new one during any display replacement. It includes a flood illuminator, which is part of the biometric security feature Face ID.

3. If Face ID is damaged or replaced, it will stop working, so be careful not to damage any of these components during this procedure. In case of damage, only Apple or an Apple authorized technician can restore the Apple ID function.

4. Opening your iPhone will breach its water-resistant seal, so have a replacement seal ready before starting this step. Without a new seal, your iPhone will not be water-resistant, and there's a higher likelihood of dust or moisture ingress.

5. Wear protective glasses to prevent eye injury during the repair.

6. Organize screws during the repair to prevent mixing them up, which could lead to damage to the iPhone by using the wrong screw in a thread.

7. The True Tone feature is disabled after a screen replacement, even when using an original Apple screen. Additionally, your iPhone may temporarily display a warning about the "authenticity" of the display.

8. After replacing the display, a message "Important Message" will be displayed on the screen.

  •

- The message simply informs that the original display has been replaced with a new one.

- The message has no impact on the device's performance.

- It appears on the lock screen for 4 days, then in the settings.

This is caused by the display replacement not being authorized by Apple's official software, and the part was not paired with the motherboard.

Apple trying to achieve to ensure that users have their devices repaired at authorized service centers, which use original Apple parts, accessories, and software.

Tips for Getting Started

Highlight 3 mm on the pick or card.

Do not insert the pick or card more than 3 mm, as you could damage internal components.

If your iPhone's display is cracked, cover it with adhesive tape to prevent injuries during the repair.

If you are unable to attach the suction cup in the following steps, use a strong piece of tape (such as duct tape) and lift the screen.

Do not put your iPhone in the microwave!!

Step 1
Removing the bottom pentalobe screws

Removing the bottom pentalobe screws

Before starting, it is necessary to discharge the iPhone’s battery below 25% because a charged Li-ion battery can ignite or explode if accidentally punctured.
Be cautious of liquid exposure when opening the iPhone’s display. Ensure that replacement seals are ready before proceeding.
1.    Turn off your iPhone
2.    Remove the two 6.8 mm-long pentalobe P2 screws at the bottom edge of the iPhone.

Step 2
Display disassembly

a) Heating the phone
1. We advise you to use protective ESD gloves when heating your iPhone.
2. For this step, you can use either a heat gun or hair dryer. The iPhone is ready for the next step when it becomes difficult to keep your hand on it due to high temperature.

b) Opening the display
1. You can then open the display using either a suction cup, or a securing tool.
2. When using two suction cups, you place firmly it near the heated bottom edge of the iPhone, one on the front, the other on the back and gently press down.
3. Make sure the suction cups remain aligned with each other. If they begin to slip out of alignment, loosen the suction cups slightly and realign the arms.
4. When using a singular suction cup, place it to the bottom edge, but avoid the edge of the glass.
5. Hold onto your phone securely, pull on the suction cup to separate the screen from the frame of your phone. A small opening near the bottom edge is sufficient.
6. Insert your opening tool of choice (pick or card) into the gap.

c) Heating the right edge
1. Reheat your iPhone, this time focusing on the right edge (the edge with the power button), until the screen becomes too hot to touch.

d) Separating the right adhesive
1. Slide your opening tool around the bottom right corner of the iPhone to separate its adhesive.
2. Continue slicing up until you reach the top right corner.
3. Be cautious of inserting it too far into your iPhone, as it can cause damage to the internal components.
4. Before continuing, leave the opening tool in the top right corner.
5. Reheat the iPhone, this time focusing on the top edge.
6. Slide the opening pick around the top right corner of the iPhone to separate the top adhesive.
7. Before continuing, leave the opening tool in the top left corner.

e) Heating the left edge
1. Reheat your iPhone, this time focusing on the left edge, until the screen becomes too hot to touch.

f) Separating the adhesive
1. Insert a second opening tool in the bottom left corner of the iPhone.
2. Twist both in unison until the left edge clips release.
3. Be cautious, as the flex cables are located on this side of the display. Insert it only a few millimetres.
4. If you’re experiencing difficulty, reheat the left edge.

Step 3
Opening the iPhone

Opening the iPhone

1. After you release the adhesive, remove the suction cups.
2. Open the iPhone, as you would turn a page in a book.
3. Support the display to prevent tearing the flat flex cable that connects the display to the motherboard. Prop the display up against a stable object.
4. During reassembly, lay the display in position, align the clips along the top edge and neatly press the top edge into place before securing the rest of the display. If it doesn’t click easily into place, examine the condition of the clips around the display perimeter and make sure they aren’t bent.

Step 4
Unfastening the display and battery connector cover

1. Unfasten the battery connector screws using a Y000 screwdriver to remove the eight screws securing the battery connector cover:
Five 1.3 mm-long screws
Two 1.6 mm-long screws
One 1.9 mm-long screw

1. Keep track of each screw and make sure they go where they came from.
2. Remove the battery connector cover using a pair of tweezers by sliding it downwards to clear the flex cables.

Step 5
Disconnecting the battery connector

  • Use the pointed end of a spudger or a clean fingernail to pry the connector from its socket. Be cautious of damaging the black silicone seal around this and the other board connections, as they provide extra protection against water and dust intrusion.

Step 6
Disconnecting the display connector cable

  • Utilize the pointed tip of a spudger to gently lift the both display cable connectors that are connected to the motherboard straight up from its socket to disconnect it.
  • When reattaching press connectors of this type, carefully align the connector and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then do the same on the opposite side. Avoid pressing down in the center, as doing so may bend the pins if the connector is misaligned, leading to permanent damage.

Step 7
Removing the screen

Carefully remove the screen and place it on a clean and sturdy surface.

Step 8

The following steps will guide you through transferring the front sensor assembly to a new screen. If your replacement screen already has the assembly pre-installed, you can skip this part.

Using a PH000 screwdriver, remove the two screws, each 1.4 mm in length, that hold the sensor assembly bracket in place.

Step 9

A hair dryer, heat gun, or a hot plate may be used to heat the top edge of the screen, but be cautious of overheating the iPhone, as the display is susceptible to heat damage.

Step 11

1.    Insert an opening tool between the proximity sensor and its recess on the screen.
2.    Pry up with the tool to separate the proximity sensor from the screen.

You can use little bit of isopropyl alcohol to unstick the proximity sensor

Step 12

Removing the front sensor assembly

1. Insert the tool under the left side of the front sensor assembly.
2. If you’re experiencing difficulty, reheat the assembly.
3. Slide the tool under the assembly to separate it from the frame.

Step 14
Transferring the assembly to a new screen

Transferring the assembly to a new screen

1. Connect the sensors to their slots in the frame to help align the main section of the assembly.
2. We advise you to use double sided tape to re-adhere the sections of the assembly that are no longer sticky.

Step 15
