If you have AirPods, you might be wondering which specific model you own. Apple offers several different versions of AirPods, each with its own unique features. Here is a simple way to determine which AirPods model you have:
Check the Serial Number The easiest way to determine your AirPods model is by checking the serial number. You can find this number:
AirPods (1st generation), released in 2016, allow you to activate Siri with a double tap or customize the double tap on each AirPod to quickly play or pause audio.
AirPods (2nd generation), released in 2019, have a similar design but include the H1 chip, which improves connectivity and supports "Hey Siri" commands. With a double tap, you can play media, skip forward, or answer a call.
AirPods (3rd generation), released in 2021, provide spatial audio and an adaptive equalizer. You can activate Siri by voice or by pressing and holding the force sensor on the earbuds. Additionally, pressing the force sensor on either AirPod allows you to quickly play or pause audio.
AirPods Pro (1st generation), released in 2019, have shorter stems and interchangeable silicone ear tips. They offer active noise cancellation and transparency mode. You can also press the force sensor on either AirPod to quickly play or pause audio and use "Hey Siri" commands.
AirPods Pro (2nd generation), released in 2022, bring improved noise cancellation and longer battery life. They feature touch controls for volume adjustment and support "Hey Siri" commands. Pressing the touch control on either AirPod allows you to quickly play or pause audio. Volume can be adjusted with a light swipe up or down. These AirPods come with silicone ear tips for a better fit. Their wireless charging case has an external speaker at the bottom to indicate battery status and a lanyard loop for carrying.
AirPods Max, released in 2020, provide high-quality sound and active noise cancellation. You can activate Siri by voice or by pressing and holding the Digital Crown. Additionally, you can quickly play or pause audio by pressing the Digital Crown.
